atrofasciatus, Spratelloides Schultz [L. P.] 1943:8, Fig. 1 [Bulletin of the United States National Museum No. 180; ref. 3957] Fagasa Bay, Tutuila Island, American Samoa. Holotype: USNM 115099. Paratypes: MCZ 37298 [ex USNM 115100] (1). •Synonym of Spratelloides gracilis (Temminck & Schlegel 1846) -- (Whitehead 1985:34 [ref. 5141], Munroe et al. 1999:1817 [ref. 24728], Randall 2005:57 [ref. 28239]). •Valid as Spratelloides atrofasciatus Schultz 1943 -- (Uyeno & Sato in Masuda et al. 1984:19 [ref. 6441], Nakabo 2000:244 [ref. 25086], Nakabo 2002:244 [ref. 26001], Ishimori et al. 2015:528 [ref. 34015], Koeda et al. 2016:10 [ref. 35333], Akaike et al. 2021:19 [ref. 38809]). Current status: Valid as Spratelloides atrofasciatus Schultz 1943. Spratelloididae. Distribution: Western Pacific: Ryukyu Islands north to southern Japan; Samoa. Habitat: marine.
