Holotype (unique): SAIAB [formerly RUSI] 305 [ex AMG]. Replacement name for Gobius gulosus Smith 1936, preoccupied by Gobius gulosus Girard 1858. •Valid as Glossogobius callidus (Smith 1937) -- (Hoese 1986:790 [ref. 5670], Maugé 1986:368 [ref. 6218], Skelton 1993:365 [ref. 24071], Skelton 2001:365 [ref. 27406], Schliewen 2011:217 [ref. 31738], Marshall 2011:266 [ref. 31755], Kramer et al. 2016:unnumbered p. [ref. 34331], Fricke et al. 2018:331 [ref. 35805]). Current status: Valid as Glossogobius callidus (Smith 1937). Gobiidae: Gobiinae. Distribution: Namibia, South and East Africa to Aldabra and Madagascar. Habitat: freshwater, brackish, marine.
