Replacement name for Gobius gulosus Smith 1936, preoccupied by Gobius gulosus Girard 1858. •Valid as Glossogobius callidus (Smith 1937) -- (Hoese 1986:790 [ref. 5670], Maugé 1986:368 [ref. 6218], Skelton 1993:365 [ref. 24071], Skelton 2001:365 [ref. 27406], Schliewen 2011:217 [ref. 31738], Marshall 2011:266 [ref. 31755], Kramer et al. 2016:unnumbered p. [ref. 34331], Fricke et al. 2018:331 [ref. 35805], Parenti 2021:161 [ref. 38603], Larson 2022:92 [ref. 39971]). Replacement Name. Current status: Valid as Glossogobius callidus (Smith 1937). Gobiidae: Gobiinae. Distribution: Southeastern Atlantic, southwestern Indian Ocean: Namibia south to Cape of Goof Hope (South Africa), then north to East Africa (Malawi, Mozambique), east to Aldabra (Seychelles) and Madagascar. Habitat: freshwater, brackish, marine.
