vexillapinnus, Cyphocharax Vari [R. P.] 1992:39, Figs. 20-22 [Smithsonian Contributions to Zoology No. 529; ref. 19020] 10 kilometers upstream of Belén (Iquitos), Río Itaya, Loreto, Peru, about 3°51'S, 73°12'W. Holotype: USNM 296394. Paratypes: MUSM 2721 (4), MZUSP 41761 (3), NRM 26569 (6), USNM 296361 (8); plus non-type material. Type catalog: Oyakawa 1996:464 [ref. 23140]. •Valid as Cyphocharax vexillapinnus Vari 1992 -- (Chang & Ortega 1995:3 [ref. 24302], Vari in Reis et al. 2003:57 [ref. 27061], Barriga Salazar 2014:105 [ref. 35745], Wosiacki & Miranda 2014:632 [ref. 33098], Dutra et al. 2016:163 [ref. 34378], Melo 2017:119 [ref. 35213], Bortolo et al. 2018:351 [ref. 36016], Meza-Vargas et al. 2021:15 [ref. 39298]). Current status: Valid as Cyphocharax vexillapinnus Vari 1992. Curimatidae. Distribution: South America: middle and upper Amazon River basin (Brazil, Ecuador and Peru). Habitat: freshwater.
