Neotype: MRAC A0-071-P-0019. Original holotype lost. Additional material: (1, lost). Type catalog: Herder et al. 2010:124 [ref. 31087]. Neotype designated by Watters et al. 2020:172 [ref. 37621]. •Valid as Paranothobranchius ocellatus Seegers 1985 -- (Seegers 1997:16 [ref. 23895]). •Valid as Nothobranchius ocellatus (Seegers 1985) -- (Lazara 2001:225 [ref. 25711], Neumann 2008:93 [ref. 30291], Wildekamp et al. 2009:251 [ref. 30677], Valdesalici 2010:60 [ref. 30802], Watters et al. 2020:11 [ref. 37621]). Current status: Valid as Nothobranchius ocellatus (Seegers 1985). Nothobranchiidae. Distribution: Lower Rufiji and lower Ruvu River basins, coastal Tanzania. Habitat: freshwater.
