Current status: Valid as Geophagus brachybranchus Kullander & Nijssen 1989. Cichlidae: Cichlinae. Distribution: Corantijn and Nickerie River drainages, and probably in Essequibo River basin: Guyana and Suriname. Habitat: freshwater.
