Holotype: ANSP 110693 [ex UMML 9621]. Paratypes: MCZ 43681-83 (1, 2, 1); UF 209621 [ex UMML 9621] (?now 1); USNM 202373 [ex MCZ 43681] (1). •Valid as Gobiosoma illecebrosum Böhlke & Robins 1968 -- (Schmitter-Soto et al. 2000:168 [ref. 27754]). •Valid as Elacatinus illecebrosus (Böhlke & Robins 1968) -- (Hoese & Reader 2001:157 [ref. 26035], Colin 2002:4 [ref. 26436], Murdy & Hoese 2003:1793 [ref. 27111], Nelson et al. 2004:171 [ref. 27807], Colin 2010:38, 42 [ref. 30879] with color morphs, Van Tassell 2011:152 [ref. 31732], Page et al. 2013:176 [ref. 32708], Escobar-Sierra et al. 2021:75 [ref. 38844], Parenti 2021:266 [ref. 38603], Page et al. 2023:122 [ref. 40505]). Current status: Valid as Elacatinus illecebrosus (Böhlke & Robins 1968). Gobiidae: Gobiinae. Distribution: Western Atlantic: western Caribbean Sea, Yucatán (Mexico) south to Panama and Colombia. IUCN (2015): Least Concern. Habitat: marine.
