Syntypes: MNHN 1923 (2) Malta, 5272 (1) Gênes, 6915 (4) Naples; ZMB 668 (1). Type catalog: Blanc & Hureau 1968:35 [ref. 20738], Paepke & Fricke 1992:277 [ref. 19946]. Hureau in Whitehead et al. 1986:1234 [ref. 13677] lists a Trigla aspera Viviani 1805 [not researched by us]. •Valid as Trigla aspera Cuvier 1829 -- (Herrera 1896:64 [ref. 39336]). •Synonym of Lepidotrigla cavillone (Lacepède 1801) -- (Richards 1968:100 [ref. 7911], Blanc & Hureau 1973:589 [ref. 7218], Bilecenoğlu et al. 2002:74 [ref. 26753], Lipej & Dulčić 2010:40 [ref. 36649], Richards 2016:2312 [ref. 35044] with author as Viviani and dated 1805). Current status: Synonym of Lepidotrigla cavillone (Lacepède 1801). Triglidae: Triglinae. Habitat: brackish, marine.
