Holotype: MBUCV-V-15663. Paratypes: AMNH 58795 (3); CAS 67384 (2); MBUCV-V-17727 (18); MCNG 20346 (4); MHNLS 6303 (2). Type catalog: Lasso et al. 1998:44 [ref. 23639], Provenzano et al. 1998:19 [ref. 24196], Ferraris 2007:77 [ref. 29155]. Masculine would be musaicus if the name is an adjective. Ron Fricke (17 June 2015) suggests following the original author and treat the specific name as an adjective. •Synonym -- (see Soares-Porto 1998:333 [ref. 23848]). •Valid, but provisionally in Centromochlus -- (Sarmento-Soares & Martins-Pinheiro 2008:499 [ref. 29857]). •Valid as Tatia musaica Royero 1992 -- (Burgess & Finley 1996:166 [ref. 22901], Ferraris in Reis et al. 2003:477 [ref. 27061], Ferraris 2007:77 [ref. 29155], Vari & Ferraris 2013:401 [ref. 32917], Vari & Calegari 2014:667 [ref. 33612]). •Valid as Centromochlus musaicus (Royero 1992) -- (Grant 2015:3 [ref. 33806] in subgenus Sauronglanis Grant 2015, Sarmento-Soares & Martins-Pinheiro 2020:127 [ref. 37877], Coelho et al. 2021:162 [ref. 38196]). Current status: Valid as Centromochlus musaicus (Royero 1992). Auchenipteridae: Centromochlinae. Distribution: Atabapo and Autana River drainages in upper Orinoco River basin, Venezuela. Habitat: freshwater.
