M. dos] 1981:188 [Anais do III Encontro de Zoologia do Nordeste. v. 13 (no. 12); ref. 19202] Igarapé, do Aeroporto, tributary of Rio Aripuanã, Humboldt, Aripuaná, Mato Grosso State, Brazil. Holotype: MZUSP 14495. Paratypes: INPA 1532-34 (8, 4, 1), MZUSP 14496 (2). Type catalog: Oyakawa 1996:473 [ref. 23140]. Appeared first as above with a brief diagnosis; apparently available from 1981. Described in more detail in Garavello & Santos 1992:112, Fig. 1B [ref. 20885]. •Wrongly as a nomen nudum is in the synonymy of Leporinus aripuanaensis Garavello & Santos 1992 -- (dos Santos & Jégu 1996:167 [ref. 23717]). •Valid as Leporinus aripuanaensis Garavello & Santos 1981 -- (Garavello & Britski in Reis et al. 2003:74 [ref. 27061] dated to 1992, Burns et al. 2014:213 [ref. 33354], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:39 [ref. 35633], Meza-Vargas et al. 2021:15 [ref. 39298]). Current status: Valid as Leporinus aripuanaensis Garavello & Santos 1981. Anostomidae. Distribution: South America: Amazon River basin (Brazil, Colombia and Peru). Habitat: freshwater.
