Holotype: SAIAB [formerly RUSI] 29409. Paratypes: ANSP 163230 (4); BPBM 27433 (8), 30358 (1), 30893 (3); HUJ 5768 (4), 6236 (2), 11529-30 (5 or 4, 1), 13576 (2), 14603 (3); USNM 276589-91 (1, 2, 6). Type catalog: Golani 2006:27 [ref. 28840]. but not including 14603. •Valid as Cheilodipterus pygmaios Gon 1993 -- (T. Fraser, pers. comm. 9/2000, Gon & Randall 2003:33 [ref. 26750], Mabuchi et al. 2014:198 [ref. 33426], DiBattista et al. 2015:20 [ref. 35706], Bogorodsky & Randall 2018:[5] 243 [ref. 36492], Golani & Fricke 2018:73 [ref. 36273], Kuiter & Kozawa 2019:64 [ref. 36965], Fraser et al. 2022:187 [ref. 39752]). Current status: Valid as Cheilodipterus pygmaios Gon 1993. Apogonidae: Apogoninae. Distribution: Red Sea; northwestern Indian Ocean: Gulf of Aden. Habitat: marine.
