Holotype: MBUCV-V-10838 [ex AFY 51169]. Paratypes: MBUCV-V-10839 [ex AFY 51079] (1); AFY 51045 (1), 51251 (1). Type catalog: Provenzano et al. 1998:10 [ref. 24196], Ferraris et al. 2017:[28] [ref. 35236]. On fifth unnumbered page; genus spelled Gymnorhamphicthys on plate. Immature Gymnorhamphichthys -- (Schwassmann 1989:157 [ref. 13745]). •Valid as Rhamphichthys apurensis (Fernández-Yépez 1968) -- (Mago-Leccia 1994:42 [ref. 21320], Triques 1999:1 [ref. 24281], Albert 2001:124 [ref. 25614], Ferraris in Reis et al. 2003:492 [ref. 27061], Carvalho & Albert 2015:40 [ref. 33681], Ferraris et al. 2017:[28] [ref. 35236], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:66 [ref. 35633], Urbano-Bonilla et al. 2018:73 [ref. 35773], Lasso et al. in Lasso & Morales-Betancourt 2022:98 [ref. 40783], Carvalho & Albert 2023:11 [ref. 40654]). Current status: Valid as Rhamphichthys apurensis (Fernández-Yépez 1968). Rhamphichthyidae. Distribution: South America: Orinoco River basin and Cuyuni River drainage (Venezuela, Colombia and Guyana). Habitat: freshwater.
