Neotype designated by García-Alzate, Román-Valencia & Taphorn 2008:149 [ref. 29919]; originally a holotype and 61 paratypes (apparenbtly lost) from Río Yaracuy drainage, Venezuela. •Valid as Hyphessobrycon fernandezi Fernández-Yépez 1972 -- (Lima & Malabarba in Reis et al. 2003:136 [ref. 27061], García-Alzate et al. 2008:145 [ref. 29919], García-Alzate & Román-Valencia 2008:15 [ref. 30008], García-Alzate et al.2010:801 [ref. 30824], García-Alzate et al. 2013:861 [ref. 32692], Marinho et al. 2014:263 [ref. 33372], Lima et al. 2014:177 [ref. 33535], Dagosta et al. 2016:258 [ref. 34377], Ohara et al. 2017:249 [ref. 35067], García-Alzate et al. 2017:125 [ref. 35253]). Current status: Valid as Hyphessobrycon fernandezi Fernández-Yépez 1972. Acestrorhamphidae: Hyphessobryconinae. Distribution: South America: coastal Caribbean drainages of Venezuela and the Orinoco River basin: Colombia and Venezuela. Habitat: freshwater.
