Holotype: no repository stated. Paratypes: (1). Type catalog: Ferraris et al. 2017:[22] [ref. 35236]. Appeared originally as diazi, but named for Miss María Isabel (Betty) Díaz, therefore mandatory change to diazae. •Valid as Hypopomus diazi Fernández-Yépez 1972 -- (Hopkins 1991:155 [ref. 19506]). •Synonym of Brachyhypopomus occidentalis Regan 1914 -- (Triques & Khamis 2003:61 [ref. 27465]). •Valid as Brachyhypopomus diazae (Fernández-Yépez 1972) (often as diazi) -- (Mago-Leccia 1994:48 [ref. 21320], Albert & Crampton in Reis et al. 2003:495 [ref. 27061], Giora et al. 2008:159 [ref. 29707], Giora & Malabarba 2009:60 [ref. 30168], Sullivan & Hopkins 2009:183 [ref. 30151], Almirón et al. 2010:572 [ref. 31124], de Santana & Crampton 2011:1154 [ref. 31643], Sullivan et al. 2013:3 [ref. 32879], Crampton et al. 2016:56 [ref. 34832], Crampton et al. 2017:708 [ref. 35114] as diazi, Ferraris et al. 2017:[22] [ref. 35236]). Current status: Valid as Brachyhypopomus diazae (Fernández-Yépez 1972). Hypopomidae. Distribution: Northwestern Venezuela and Llanos of Orinoco basin, trans- and cis-Andean drainages. Habitat: freshwater.
