Type catalog: Smith 1994:10 [ref. 21917]. •Valid as Paraxenomystax bidentatus Reid 1840 -- (Cervigón 1991:72 [ref. 24472], Cervigón 1992:365 [ref. 23827]). •Valid as Xenomystax bidentatus (Reid 1940) -- (Smith 1989:562 [ref. 13285], Smith 1989:761 [ref. 13285], Boschung 1992:39 [ref. 23239], McEachran & Fechhelm 1998:312 [ref. 23897], Smith 2003:750 [ref. 26989], Smith et al. 2017:42 [ref. 36260], Robertson et al. 2020:153 [ref. 38098], Page et al. 2023:57 [ref. 40505], Fricke et al. 2024:134 [ref. 41622]). Current status: Valid as Xenomystax bidentatus (Reid 1940). Congridae: Congrinae. Distribution: Western Atlantic: southern Florida (U.S.A.) south to northeastern Brazil, including southeastern Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea. IUCN (2019): Least Concern. Habitat: marine.
