major, Procottus jeittelesi Taliev [D. N.] in Berg 1949:1169 [Freshwater fishes of the U.S.S.R. and adjacent countries No. 30; ref. 20662] Lake Baikal, Russia. No types at ZIN. Type catalog: Spodareva et al. 2023:247 [ref. 40445] with neotype. Appeared without distinguishing features and not available in Taliev 1944:34 and Taliev 1948:113 [ref. 19628]. Also appeared in Taliev 1955:309 [ref. 4316] but dates to Taliev in Berg as above. Neotype [ZIN 52082] if designated first by Sideleva 2001:73 [ref. 26181] and 2003:208 [ref. 27815] is invalid. •Synonym of Procottus jeittelesii (Dybowski 1874), but a valid subspecies as described -- (Berg 1949:1169 [ref. 20662], Taliev 1955:309 [ref. 4316]). •Valid as Procottus major Taliev 1949 -- (Sideleva 1982:31 [ref. 14469], Reshetnikov et al. 1997:761 [ref. 24702], Sideleva 1998:158 [ref. 23595], Sideleva 2001:72 [ref. 26181], Bogutskaya et al. 2001:47 [ref. 26178], Kontula et al. 2003:149 [ref. 26791], Sideleva 2003:19, 208 [ref. 27815] dating to Taliev 1944, Bogutskaya & Naseka 2004:200 [ref. 28183], Goto et al. 2014:[15] [ref. 33456], Dyldin et al. 2020:116 [ref. 37569], Bogdanov 2023:71 [ref. 40329]). Current status: Valid as Procottus major Taliev 1949. Cottidae. Distribution: North Asia: Lake Baikal (Russia). Habitat: freshwater.
