cuvieri, Otolithes Trewavas [E.] 1974:Unnumbered [ ref. 21555] Malabar, India. Syntypes: BMNH 1898.11.18.29 (1) "paratype"; MNHN 0000-7617 (1) "holotype" and MNHN 1987-0159 [ex MNHN 0000-7617] (1) "paratype". Type catalog: Bauchot & Desoutter 1987:14 [ref. 6382]. This was proposed as a new name for Otolithus ruber (not Bloch & Schneider 1801) Cuvier 1830, with 2 literature sources provided; Trewavas' name was not technically a replacement name. Species later illustrated and described in more detail in Trewavas 1977:351, Pl. 2 [ref. 4459]; type specimens considered syntypes with no holotype established in the 1974 description, but a holotype and two paratypes are listed in Trewavas 1977. •Valid as Otolithes cuvieri Trewavas 1974 -- (Trewavas 1977:349 [ref. 4459], Randall 1995:231 [ref. 22896], Talwar 1995:61 [ref. 25194], Sasaki 1996:88 [ref. 22156], Mishra et al. 1999:87 [ref. 25315], Manilo & Bogorodsky 2003:S110 [ref. 27377], Psomadakis et al. 2015:278 [ref. 34104], Lo et al. 2017:13 [ref. 35288], Eagderi et al. 2019:102 [ref. 37020], Lin et al. 2019:16 [ref. 36846], Habib & Islam 2020:Supplementary table p. 27 [ref. 38321], Parenti 2020:35 [ref. 37439], Psomadakis et al. 2020:493 [ref. 37272], Sasaki 2022:409 [ref. 39862]). Current status: Valid as Otolithes cuvieri Trewavas 1974. Sciaenidae. Distribution: Northern Indian Ocean: Persian Gulf and Oman east to Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Myanmar. Habitat: marine.
