alexandrini, Orthragoriscus Ranzani [C.] 1834:355 [Bullettino delle Scienze Mediche v. 10; ref. 40660] Adriatic Sea (Mediterranean Sea). Holotype (unique): MZUB uncat. (190 cm TL) (ex PHMA uncat.). Type catalog: Britz 2022:391 [ref. 39734]. Pl. Ia mentioned but not published in original description. Also appeared as new in Ranzani 1839:75, 78-79, tab., Pl. 6 (left) [ref. 3605]. Sawai et al. 2017:[6] 147 [ref. 35699] reported MZUB uncat. (190 cm TL) as the holotype of this taxon; Britz 2022:391 [ref. 39734] rejects this specimen as the length does not match, and calculates that the holotype should have had 317.92 cm TL; this opinion was challenged by Sawai & Nyegaard 2023:572 [ref. 40659], who provided evidence that MZUB uncat. is the holotype. •Synonym of Mola mola (Linnaeus 1758) -- (Fraser-Brunner 1951:115 [ref. 19546], Parenti 2003:3 [ref. 27311], Nyegaard et al. 2017:10 [ref. 35492]). •Valid as Mola alexandrini (Ranzani 1834) (often dated 1839) -- (Sawai et al. 2017:[1] [ref. 35699], Carneiro et al. 2019:222 [ref. 37250], Reiner 2019:313 [ref. 38139], Wirtz & Biscoito 2019:2 [ref. 36989], Zajonz et al. 2019:103 [ref. 36871], Psomadakis et al. 2020:628 [ref. 37272], Sawai et al. 2020:47 [ref. 38500], Sonoyama et al. 2020:138 [ref. 37637], Kovačić et al. 2021:62 [ref. 39014], Sawai 2021:31 [ref. 38498], Sawai 2021:1 [ref. 38499], Gomes-Pereira et al. 2022:[2] 291 [ref. 40360], Grove et al. 2022:22 [ref. 41326], Heemstra 2022:482 [ref. 40308], Sawai 2022:2 [ref. 40026], Sawai & Ishikuro 2022:27 [ref. 40020], Sawai & Yamada 2022:6 [ref. 39099], Carvalho-Filho 2023:288 [ref. 40480], Insacco et al. 2023:223 [ref. 40713], Sawai 2023:34 [ref. 40902], Sawai & Nyegaard 2023:572 [ref. 40659], Sawai et al. 2023:15 [ref. 40950], Sawai 2024:14 [ref. 41274]).
