Neotype designated by Hata et al. 2019:12 [ref. 36766]. •Synonym of Stolephorus waitei Jordan & Seale 1926 -- (Whitehead et al. 1988:419 [ref. 5725], Wongratana et al. 1999:1742 [ref. 24719]). •Valid as Stolephorus bataviensis Hardenberg 1933 -- (Roberts 1978:28 [ref. 8886], Zhang 2001:127 [ref. 26586], Hata et al. 2019:11 [ref. 36766], Hata et al. 2020:517 [ref. 37244], Hata & Motomura 2021:116 [ref. 38194]). Current status: Valid as Stolephorus bataviensis Hardenberg 1933. Engraulidae: Engraulinae. Distribution: Eastern Indian Ocean, western Pacific: Indonesia east to Philippines and Palau, north Taiwan. Habitat: freshwater, brackish, marine.
