Holotype: ZSM 27965 [now ZRC 38483]. Paratypes: CMK 7145 (5), 7146 (7). Type catalog: Neumann 2011:255 [ref. 31652]. The holotype is still at ZRC. •Valid as Puntius bandula Kottelat & Pethiyagoda 1991 -- (Kullander & Fang 2005:297 [ref. 28193], Silva et al. 2008:62 [ref. 29719], Kullander & Britz 2008:61 [ref. 29861], Meegaskumbura et al. 2008:150 [ref. 29872]). •Valid as Pethia bandula (Kottelat & Pethiyagoda 1991) -- (Pethiyagoda et al. 2012:81 [ref. 32071], Katwate et al. 2014:244 [ref. 33433], Katwate et al. 2014:213 [ref. 33571], Batuwita et al. 2015:580 [ref. 33714], Ren et al. 2020:[5] [ref. 37805], Sudasinghe et al. 2021:[3] [ref. 38791]). Current status: Valid as Pethia bandula (Kottelat & Pethiyagoda 1991). Cyprinidae: Smiliogastrinae. Distribution: South Asia: southwestern Sri Lanka. Habitat: freshwater.
