Holotype: NMNZ P.23969. Paratypes: AMS uncat. (3, not present in 1997), BMNH 2005.4.6.1-3 (3), NMNZ P.7309-10 (1, 8), P.18870 (1); SMNS 24580 (3); USNM uncat. (3); plus many more paratype lots at NMNZ. Type catalog: Fricke 1995:19 [ref. 28100], Fricke 2005:63 [ref. 29864]. Second author is C. D. Roberts. •Valid as Apopterygion oculus Fricke & Roberts 1994 -- (Fricke 1997:561 [ref. 23339], Jawad & Clements 2004:83 [ref. 27725], Fricke 2009:33 [ref. 30394], Patzner et al. 2009:443 [ref. 30396], Stewart & Clements 2015:1497 [ref. 34299]). Current status: Valid as Apopterygion oculus Fricke & Roberts 1994. Tripterygiidae: Tripterygiinae. Distribution: Southwestern Pacific: New Zealand region. Habitat: marine.
