Holotype: NMNZ P.25094. Paratypes: NMNZ P.7088 (2), P.7093-97 (1, 1, 8, 3, 5), P.10642 (1), P.10645-46 (1, 3), P.10705 (5), P.10707-10 (1, 1, 1, 2), plus many more paratype lots at NMNZ. Type catalog: Springer & Orrell 1996:29 [ref. 22274]. •Valid as Forsterygion profundum Fricke & Roberts 1994 -- (Fricke 1997:574 [ref. 23339]). •Valid as Matanui profundum (Fricke & Roberts 1994) -- (Jawad & Clements 2004:100 [ref. 27725], Jawad 2008:2944, 2952 [ref. 29958], Fricke 2009:46 [ref. 30394], Patzner et al. 2009:448 [ref. 30396], Stewart & Clements 2015:1515 [ref. 34299]). Current status: Valid as Matanui profundum (Fricke & Roberts 1994). Tripterygiidae: Tripterygiinae. Distribution: Southwestern Pacific: New Zealand region. Habitat: marine.
