English description on p. 23. •Synonym of Gymnocypris potanini Herzenstein 1891, but a valid subspecies as described -- (Chen & Huang in Chen 1998:234 [ref. 23556], Chen & Cao et al. in Yue 2000:358 [ref. 25272], Zhang et al. 2016:117 [ref. 34477], Zhang et al. 2019:334 [ref. 36699]). •Valid as Gymnocypris firmispinata Wu & Wu 1988 -- (Wu & Wu 1992:449 [ref. 21205] as firmispinatus, Zhu 1995:548 [ref. 25213] as firmispinatus, Kottelat 2013:107 [ref. 32989], Guo 2021:444 [ref. 38617] as firmispinatus). •Valid as Schizopygopsis firmispinata (Wu & Wu 1988). Current status: Valid as Schizopygopsis firmispinata (Wu & Wu 1988). Cyprinidae: Schizopygopsinae. Distribution: Upper Yangtze River basin, China. Habitat: freshwater.
