Holotype: BMNH 1889.2.1.1403. Paratypes: BMNH 1889.2.1.1404 (1). Salmostoma is neuter, therefore mandatory correction to orissaense. •Synonym of Salmostoma phulo (Hamilton 1822), but a valid subspecies as described -- (Bănărescu 1971:16 [ref. 20612]). •Valid as Salmostoma orissaense Bănărescu 1968 -- (Talwar & Jhingran 1991:325 [ref. 20764], Menon 1999:29 [ref. 24904], Kosygin et al. 2022:659 [ref. 40736] as orissaensis). Current status: Valid as Salmostoma orissaense Bănărescu 1968. Danionidae: Chedrinae. Distribution: South Asia: India. Habitat: freshwater.
