australis, Pseudogramma Randall [J. E.] & Baldwin [C. C.] 1997:19 [Indo-Pacific Fishes No. 26; ref. 22812] Easter Island, offshore from Ahu Akapu, rocky substratum, 21.5 m depth. Holotype: BPBM 6623 [not BPBM 13531]. Paratypes: AMS I.37619-001 (1), BMNH 1996.6.27.1 (1); BPBM 13531 (1), 13974 (2), 16444 (1), 16893 (1), 37393 (4); CAS 13531 (1), 87907 (1); SAIAB 41659 (1); USNM 327795 (3), 303170 (2). The authors listed BPBM 6623 as holotype of the species australis, and then (p. 23) treated that specimen as the type of P. australis pasquensis rather than the nominate subspecies P. australis australis; they selected another specimen (BPBM 13531) as the type of P. australis australis. According to ICZN Art. 61.2.1, the fixation for the taxon at higher rank takes precedence [i.e. BPBM 6623]. P. australis was restricted by Randall et al. 2002 [ref. 26441] to Easter Island populations; some paratypes now belong to P. xantha. •Valid as Pseudogramma australis australis Randall & Baldwin 1997 -- (Heemstra & Randall 1999:2473 [ref. 24815]). •Valid as Pseudogramma australis Randall & Baldwin 1997 -- (Randall 1999:12 [ref. 25829], Prokofiev 2019:425 [ref. 36810], Parenti & Randall 2020:97 [ref. 37354]). Current status: Valid as Pseudogramma australis Randall & Baldwin 1997. Grammistidae. Distribution: South Pacific: Easter Island. Habitat: marine.
