E.] 1997:541, Fig. 4A [Copeia 1997 (no. 3); ref. 22903] Rio Jacutinga on road (BR283) between Seara and Concórdia, Santa Catarina, Brazil, about 27°10'S, 52°09'W. Holotype: MCP 12488. Paratypes: MCN 8704 (2), 8714 (1), 8924 (6), 9119 (1), 9192 (1), 9229 (9), 9488 (1), 9527 (1); MCP 12038 (1), 12778 (1), 13314 (2, 1 c&s); MNRJ 13346 (5). •Valid as Characidium serrano Buckup & Reis 1997 -- (Buckup & Hahn 2000:151 [ref. 24257], Buckup in Reis et al. 2003:91 [ref. 27061], da Graça & Pavanelli 2008:54 [ref. 29583], Casciotta et al. 2015:2 [ref. 33697], Mirande & Koerber 2015:27 [ref. 35117], Bertaco et al. 2016:414 [ref. 34561], Stabile et al. 2024:10 [ref. 41591]). Current status: Valid as Characidium serrano Buckup & Reis 1997. Crenuchidae: Characidiinae. Distribution: South America: upper Uruguay River basin, Brazil and Argentina. Habitat: freshwater.
