Appeared as "Gobio benacensis, Nob. ex Pollini Cyp." in Ninni 1863:42 [ref. 18477]. •Synonym of Gobio gobio (Linnaeus 1758), but a valid subspecies as described -- (Bianco & Taraborelli 1984:526 [ref. 21913], Bianco 1988:153 [ref. 22383], Bănărescu et al. 1999:81, 109 [ref. 24850]). •Valid as Gobio benacensis (Pollini 1816) -- (Kottelat 1997:60 [ref. 22952], Bianco & Ketmaier 2001:194 [ref. 26728], Kottelat & Persat 2005:229 [ref. 28378], Povz et al. 2005:86 [ref. 37101], Bianco & Delmastro 2011:5 [ref. 31648], Lorenzoni et al. 2019:252 [ref. 37108]). •Valid as Romanogobio benacensis (Pollini 1816) -- (Kottelat & Freyhof 2007:102 [ref. 29996], Zupančič 2008:37 [ref. 29926], Ćaleta et al. 2015:80 [ref. 34877], Jelić et al. 2018:116 [ref. 35748], Ćaleta et al. 2019:155 [ref. 37026]). Current status: Valid as Romanogobio benacensis (Pollini 1816). Gobionidae. Distribution: Southern Europe: Italy, Slovenia and Croatia. Introduced in central Italy. Habitat: freshwater.
