Species epithet is an adjective and corrected to stephana when in genus Pareiorhaphis. •Valid as Hemipsilichthys stephanus Oliveira & Oyakawa 1999 -- (Isbrücker 2001:28 [ref. 25653], Pereira & Reis 2002:126 [ref. 26071], Isbrücker 2002:17 [ref. 27178], Pereira et al. 2003:2 [ref. 27068], Weber in Reis et al. 2003:354 [ref. 27061]). •Valid as Pareiorhaphis stephana (Oliveira & Oyakawa 1999) (often seen as stephanus) -- (Pereira 2005:273 [ref. 28273] as stephane, Ferraris 2007:280 [ref. 29155] as stephanus, Pereira et al. 2012:539 [ref. 32218] as stephanus, Pereira & Reis 2017:75 [ref. 35307], Pereira et al. 2017:8 [ref. 35608] as stephanus).
