H.] 1887:374, Pl. 20 (fig. 6) [Proceedings of the United States National Museum v. 10 (no. 637); ref. 14471] Guanajuato State, Mexico [possibly Jacona, in Michoacán State] Holotype (unique): USNM 38005. Larval specimen mentioned but not definitely included in this species; USNM 38005 shows 8 specimens. See Renaud 2011:83 [ref. 31770] for comments on the type locality. •Valid as Lampetra spadicea Bean 1887 -- (Herrera 1896:7 [ref. 39336], Espinosa Pérez et al. 1993:7 [ref. 22290], Cochran et al. 1996:174 [ref. 22597], Lyons et al. 1996:366 [ref. 25521], Castro-Aguirre et al. 1999:36 [ref. 24550], Nelson et al. 2004:48 [ref. 27807], Scharpf 2005:6 [ref. 28940], Miller 2006:77 [ref. 28615]). •Valid as Tetrapleurodon spadiceus (Bean 1887) -- (Yamazaki & Goto 2000:8 [ref. 24514], Gill et al. 2003:689 [ref. 27254], Renaud 2011:83 [ref. 31770], Page et al. 2013:48 [ref. 32708], Page et al. 2023:36 [ref. 40505], Fricke et al. 2024:58 [ref. 41622]). Current status: Valid as Tetrapleurodon spadiceus (Bean 1887). Petromyzontidae. Distribution: Southern North America: Lago de Chapala and tributaries, Guanajuato, Jalisco and Michoacán (Pacific slope of Mexico) endemic. Habitat: freshwater.
