Based on Day 1878:523 [ref. 4887], mentioned under Haplochilus panchax, 'in those from the Andamans up to 11 (dorsal rays)'. Sometimes considered a nomen nudum, as the name was reported somewhat hypothetical. Kottelat (2013:299) regards the name as available.
