Anderson in Anderson & Fedorov 2004:5 [ref. 27603] believes this is probably a synonym of G. retrodorsalis. •Synonym of Gymnelus retrodorsalis Le Danois 1913 with question -- (Mecklenburg et al. 2011:124, 128 [ref. 31212], Mecklenburg & Anderson 2015:284 [ref. 33742]), •Valid as Gymnelus andersoni Chernova 1998 -- (Chernova 1999:306 [ref. 24868], Chernova 2000:7 [ref. 24885], Anderson & Fedorov 2004:5 [ref. 27603], Balushkin et al.2011:961 [ref. 32499], Dolgov 2013:919 [ref. 33112], Parin et al. 2014:391 [ref. 33547], Dolgov et al. 2018:192 [ref. 41055]). Current status: Valid as Gymnelus andersoni Chernova 1998. Zoarcidae: Gymnelinae. Distribution: Arctic: northern Eurasian seas. Habitat: marine.
