Current status: Valid as Epinephelus clippertonensis Allen & Robertson 1999. Epinephelidae. Distribution: Eastern Pacific: Baja California (Mexico), Clipperton Island (France) and Revillagigedo Islands (Mexico). Habitat: marine.
