Paratypes: NMC 86-0592B (2); ZIN 25332 (2), 31392 (1), 34984 (1), 43361 (1), 52561-62 (1, 1). Plus non-type material. Type catalog: Balushkin et al 2011:963 [ref. 32499], Balushkin et al. 2012:157 [ref. 33667]. Anderson in Anderson & Fedorov 2004:5 [ref. 27603] believes this is probably a synonym of G. viridis. •Synonym of Gymnelus viridis (Fabricius 1780) -- (Mecklenburg et al. 2011:124, 128 [ref. 31212], Parin et al. 2014:395 [ref. 33547], Mecklenburg & Anderson 2015:278 [ref. 33742]). •Valid as Gymnelus barsukovi Chernova 1999 -- (Chernova 2000:8 [ref. 24885], Sheiko & Fedorov 2000:35 [ref. 25650], Anderson & Fedorov 2004:5 [ref. 27603], Balushkin et al.2011:963 [ref. 32499], Afonso et al. 2016:61, 158 [ref. 36199], Chernova et al. 2022:8 [ref. 39177]). Current status: Valid as Gymnelus barsukovi Chernova 1999. Zoarcidae: Gymnelinae. Distribution: Arctic Ocean, including Bering Sea. Habitat: marine.
