Paratypes: ZIN 35479 (1), 51560 (1). Type catalog: Balushkin 2011:965 [ref. 32449], Balushkin et al. 2012:162 [ref. 33667]. Anderson in Anderson & Fedorov 2004:6 [ref. 27603] believes this is probably a synonym of G. viridis. On p. 9 of English translation. •Valid as Gymnelus obscurus Chernova 2000 -- (Sheiko & Fedorov 2000:35 [ref. 25650], Anderson & Fedorov 2004:6 [ref. 27603], Balushkin 2011:965 [ref. 32449]). •Synonym of Gymnelus viridis (Fabricius 1780) with question -- (Mecklenburg et al. 2011:124, 128 [ref. 31212], Parin et al. 2014:393 [ref. 33547] with question, Mecklenburg & Anderson 2015:278 [ref. 33742]). Current status: Synonym of Gymnelus viridis (Fabricius 1780). Zoarcidae: Gymnelinae. Distribution: North Pacific: Bering Sea (if valid). Habitat: marine.
