Paratypes: CAS 54231 (1), 213340 (1). •Valid as Scorpaenopsis obtusa Randall & Eschmeyer 2001 -- (Allen et al. 2006:890 [ref. 29066], Motomura & Shinohara 2005:296 [ref. 29181], Motomura & Causse 2011:51 [ref. 31125], Motomura et al. 2011:100 [ref. 31717], Allen & Erdmann 2012:234 [ref. 31980], Fricke et al. 2013:208 [ref. 32769], Fricke et al. 2014:52 [ref. 33932], Fricke et al. 2019:103 [ref. 36673]). Current status: Valid as Scorpaenopsis obtusa Randall & Eschmeyer 2001. Scorpaenidae: Scorpaeninae. Distribution: Southeastern Indian Ocean and western Pacific: central Indonesia east to Philippines and New Ireland (Papua New Guinea), north to southern Japan, south to northern Australia. Habitat: marine.
