Also appeared as new with description in Costa & Nielsen 2001:5 [ref. 26580]; earliest not determined. •Valid as Simpsonichthys ocellatus Costa, Nielsen & de Luca 2001 -- (Costa in Reis et al. 2003:542 [ref. 27061], Costa & Brasil 2004:2 [ref. 28012], Costa 2006:17 [ref. 28620], Costa 2007:56 [ref. 29445]). •Valid as Hypsolebias ocellatus (Costa, Nielsen & de Luca 2001) -- (based on generic placement in Costa 2011 [ref. 31654], Vieira-Guimarães et al. 2024:55 [ref. 41258]). Current status: Valid as Hypsolebias ocellatus (Costa, Nielsen & de Luca 2001). Rivulidae: Cynolebiinae. Distribution: South America: middle Jequitinhonha River floodplains, Minas Gerais State (Brazil). Habitat: freshwater.
