Appeared first without distinguishing features in Bogutskaya et al. 2001:47 [ref. 26178] and apparently also in Sideleva 2001:69 [ref. 26181]. •Valid as Neocottus thermalis Sideleva 2002 -- (Bogutskaya et al. 2001:47 [ref. 26178] [but not dating to this account], Sideleva 2003:19, 201 [ref. 27815], Bogutskaya & Naseka 2004:199 [ref. 28183], Goto et al. 2014:[15] [ref. 33456], Dyldin et al. 2020:116 [ref. 37569]). •Valid as Abyssocottus thermalis (Sideleva 2002) -- (Bogdanov 2023:69 [ref. 40329]). Current status: Valid as Neocottus thermalis Sideleva 2002. Cottidae. Distribution: North Asia: Lake Baikal, local endemic of Frolikha Bay (Russia). Habitat: freshwater.
