Holotype: MZUSP 67466. Paratypes: ANSP 177976 (5); FMNH 109198 (5); MCP 27055 (5); MNRJ 21508 (5); MZUSP 52199 (25, 2 c&s), 52203 (1); UFRJ 1538 (12), 1898 (6); USNM 365042 (5). Plus non-type material. •Valid as Hyphessobrycon moniliger Moreira, Lima & Costa 2002 -- (Lima & Malabarba in Reis et al. 2003:138 [ref. 27061], Bertaco & Malabarba 2005:87 [ref. 28297], Ingenito et al. 2013:42 [ref. 32568], Teixeira et al. 2016:474 [ref. 34088], Pastana & Ohara 2016:396 [ref. 34716], Lima et al. 2024:195 [ref. 40817]). Current status: Valid as Hyphessobrycon moniliger Moreira, Lima & Costa 2002. Acestrorhamphidae: Hyphessobryconinae. Distribution: South America: Araguaia-Tocantins, upper Tapajós and upper Xingu River basins, Brazil; introduced in the upper Rio Paraná basin. Habitat: freshwater.
