Information on type locality and type specimen taken from Castex 1964:31 [ref. 20924]. Appeared as a nomen nudum as labratori in an earlier 1963 Castex paper (see Carvalho, Lovejoy & Rosa in Reis et al. 2003:25 [ref. 27061]). •Valid as Potamotrygon labradori Castex 1963 -- (Castex 1964:31 [ref. 20924] with other authors). •Synonym of Potamotrygon motoro (Müller & Henle 1841) -- (Carvalho et al. in Reis et al. 2003:25 [ref. 27061], Loboda & Carvalho 2013:699, 712 [ref. 33024], Litz & Koerber 2014:5 [ref. 33622], Mirande & Koerber 2015:8 [ref. 35117], Weigmann 2016:156 [ref. 34211], Koerber et al. 2017:10 [ref. 35267]).
