Holotype: USNM 357485. Paratypes: BPBM 28538 (5), CAS-SU 69804 (1), USNM 169368 (4). Plus non-type material. Treated as a noun in apposition. •Valid as Apogon monospilus Fraser, Randall & Allen 2002 -- (Allen & Adrim 2003:35 [ref. 26830], Allen et al. 2006:1091 [ref. 29004]). •Valid as Ostorhinchus monospilus (Fraser, Randall & Allen 2002) -- (Allen & Erdmann 2012:398 [ref. 31980], Mabuchi et al. 2014:200 [ref. 33426], Kuiter & Kozawa 2019:125 [ref. 36965], Allen & Erdmann 2024:423 [ref. 40796]). Current status: Valid as Ostorhinchus monospilus (Fraser, Randall & Allen 2002). Apogonidae: Apogoninae. Distribution: Eastern Indian Ocean, western Pacific: Bali (Indonesia) east to Philippines, south to Western Australia and northern Queensland (Australia). Habitat: marine.
