brevispinis, Apogon Fraser [T. H.] & Randall [J. E.] 2003:2, Figs. 1A, 2A, 3 [Zootaxa No. 171; ref. 26789] West side off Areva, Rurutu, Austral Islands, South Pacific, depth 46-48 meters. Holotype: BPBM 13723. Paratypes: USNM 371776 (1). Plus one photographed specimen from Rangiroa that was lost. •Valid as Apogon brevispinis Fraser & Randall 2003. •Valid as Ostorhinchus brevispinis Fraser & Randall 2003 -- (Randall 2005:203 [ref. 28239], Mabuchi et al. 2014:199 [ref. 33426], Kuiter & Kozawa 2019:118 [ref. 36965]). Current status: Valid as Ostorhinchus brevispinis (Fraser & Randall 2003). Apogonidae: Apogoninae. Distribution: Southern-central Pacific: Austral Islands and Rangiroa (Tuamotu Archipelago). Habitat: marine.
