besnardi, Scyliorhinus retifer Springer [S.] & Sadowsky [V.] 1970:95, Fig. 2 [Proceedings of the Biological Society of Washington v. 83 (no. 7); ref. 7783] Near continental shelf edge, 33°26'S, 51°21'W, southern Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil), southwestern Atlantic, R/V Prof. W. Besnard station 419, depth 190 meters. Holotype: USNM 204376. Paratypes: IOSP 81BS (1, dissected), 82BS (1); USNM 204377 (1). Type catalog: Howe & Springer 1993:4 [ref. 21812]. Original type locality (northern Uruguay) is erroneous (see Koerber 2024:28 [ref. 41192]). •Valid species as Scyliorhinus besnardi Springer & Sadowsky 1970 -- (Compagno 1984:357 [ref. 6846], Compagno 1999:480 [ref. 25589], Soares et al. 2015:358 [ref. 33716], Weigmann 2016:43 [ref. 34211], Nión et al. 2016:20 [ref. 35565]). •Synonym of Scyliorhinus haeckelii (Miranda Ribeiro 1907) -- (Soares et al. 2016:514 [ref. 34158], Soares & Carvalho 2019:68 [ref. 36701]). Current status: Synonym of Scyliorhinus haeckelii (Miranda Ribeiro 1907). Scyliorhinidae. Distribution: Southwestern Atlantic: southern Brazil to Argentina (if valid). Habitat: marine.
