Holotype: MZUSP 60607. Paratypes: IDSM 425 (1); INPA 18381-82 (1, 1), 60608-09 (3, 3); MZUSP 75143-48 (1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1), 75149-51 (1, 1, 1). Plus non-type material. Type catalog: Ferraris et al. 2017:[18] [ref. 35236]. •Valid as Gymnotus curupira Crampton, Thorsen & Albert 2005 -- (Maxime & Albert 2009:582 [ref. 30673], Milhomem et al. 2012:804 [ref. 31815], Sarmiento et al. 2014:104, 188 [ref. 35004], Ferraris et al. 2017:[18] [ref. 35236], see DoNascimiento et al. 2017:[14] [ref. 35679], Craig et al. 2019:44 [ref. 37060] in subgenus Gymnotus, Ochoa et al. 2020:63 [ref. 37781], Meza-Vargas et al. 2021:22 [ref. 39298]). Current status: Valid as Gymnotus curupira Crampton, Thorsen & Albert 2005. Gymnotidae: Gymnotinae. Distribution: South America: upper Amazon basin (Brazil, Bolivia and Peru). Habitat: freshwater.
