S.] 2005:3, Fig. 1 [Zootaxa No. 920; ref. 28321] Ireng River, 6.9 kilometers west-southwest of Karasabai, Takutu River- Negro River drainage, 04.01957°N, 059.60170°W. Holotype: UG/CSBD 11047. Paratypes: ANSP 180211 (2), 180212 (2), 180213 (1); AUM 35540 (3), 35544 (1), 35548 (1), 35553 (3), 38884 (1); MCP 35157 (1), 33157 [sic] (1); UG/CSBD 11048 (1), 11049 (2). Plus non-type specimens. Type catalog: Ferraris 2007:256 [ref. 29155]. Named after Macushi people; a noun in apposition. •Valid as Hypostomus macushi Armbruster & de Souza 2005 -- (Ferraris 2007:256 [ref. 29155], Carvalho et al. 2010:39 [ref. 30754], Weber et al. 2012:211 [ref. 31999], Zawadzki & Carvalho 2014:50 [ref. 33227], Tencatt et al. 2014:602 [ref. 33520], Taphorn et al. 2022:51 [ref. 41297]). Current status: Valid as Hypostomus macushi Armbruster & de Souza 2005. Loricariidae: Hypostominae. Distribution: South America: Rupununi River, Essequibo River and Takutu and Ireng rivers, Negro River basin (Guyana-Brazil border). Habitat: freshwater.
