Holotype: ZMB 33658. Paratypes: ZMB 33659 (2). Plus non-type material. Alburnus leobergi was briefly mentioned as valid in Freyhof & Kottelat 2007:205 [ref. 29339] but the formal description appeared as above. •Synonym of Alburnus mento (Heckel 1836) --- (Parin et al. 2014:68 [ref. 33547] dated 1837). •Possible synonym of Alburnus sarmaticus Freyhof & Kottelat 2007 -- (Bogutskaya et al. 2017:101 [ref. 35513]). •Valid as Alburnus leobergi Freyhof & Kottelat 2007 -- (Kottelat & Freyhof 2007:169 [ref. 29996], Bogutskaya & Coad 2009:170 [ref. 30270], Dyldin et al. 2020:80, 105, 108 [ref. 37569], Dyldin et al. 2023:[29] [ref. 40328] with question). Current status: Valid as Alburnus leobergi Freyhof & Kottelat 2007. Leuciscidae: Leuciscinae. Distribution: Eastern Europe: Sea of Azov basin (Russia and Ukraine). Habitat: freshwater, brackish.
