Holotype: MZUSP 93494. Paratypes: (31) ANSP 187100 (1); MP 41348 (1); MNRJ 30777 (1); MZUSP 78722 (2), 91122 (3), 93495 (17 + 3 c&s), 93496 (3). Plus additional non-type material. •Valid as Moenkhausia cosmops Lima, Britski & Machado 2007 -- (Marinho & Langeani 2010:887 [ref. 30927], Pastana & Dagosta 2014:395 [ref. 33384], Dagosta et al. 2015:424 [ref. 33998], Ohara & Lima 2015:167 [ref. 34046], Ohara & Marinho 2016:[6] 42 [ref. 34383], Azevedo-Santos & Benine 2016:208 [ref. 34837], Reia et al. 2021:11 [ref. 38582]). •Valid as Bario cosmops (Lima, Britski & Machado 2007) -- (Melo et al. 2024:27 [ref. 41541]). Current status: Valid as Bario cosmops (Lima, Britski & Machado 2007). Acestrorhamphidae: Thayeriinae. Distribution: South America: Juruena River drainage, Mato Grosso State, Brazil. Habitat: freshwater.
