Holotype: IUQ 2008. Paratypes: IUQ 542 (40), 883 (6), 1453 (5). •Valid as Hemibrycon brevispini Román-Valencia & Arcila-Mesa 2009 -- (Román-Valencia et al. 2009:29 [ref. 30722], Román-Valencia & Arcila-Mesa 2010:340 [ref. 30721], Román-Valencia et al. 2010:103 [ref. 30945] as brevispinni, Román-Valencia et al. 2013:1365 [ref. 32877], Román-Valencia et al. 2014:117 [ref. 33572], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:55 [ref. 35633]). •Probable synonym of Hemibrycon boquiae (Eigenmann 1913) -- (Thomaz et al. 2015:19 [ref. 33893], García-Melo et al. 2018:[3] [ref. 35894]). Current status: Valid as Hemibrycon brevispini Román-Valencia & Arcila-Mesa 2009. Characidae: Stevardiinae. Distribution: Upper Cauca River system, Colombia. Habitat: freshwater.
