itoui, Upeneus Yamashita [M.], Golani [D.] & Motomura [H.] 2011:48, Figs. 1-3 [Zootaxa No. 3107; ref. 31639] East of Sakinoyama, Kataura, Kasasa, Minamisatsuma, Kagoshima, Japan, 31°25′44″N, 130°11′49″E, depth 27 meters. Holotype: NSMT 102554 [ex KAUM 21091]. Paratypes: many at AMS, CSIRO, KAUM-I, MNHN, MUFS, URM and USNM. Plus non-type specimens. •Valid as Upeneus itoui Yamashita, Golani & Motomura 2011 -- (Uiblein & McGrouther 2012:62 [ref. 32282], Uiblein & Lisher 2013:94 [ref. 32906], Uiblein & Gledhill 2014:11 [ref. 33614], Uiblein & White 2015:51 [ref. 33856], Uiblein et al. 2017:295 [ref. 35570], Matsunuma et al. 2021:24 [ref. 38477], Uiblein & Motomura 2021:310 [ref. 38170], Echreshavi et al. 2022:18 [ref. 39234], Uiblein & Maclaine 2022:285 [ref. 39017], Uiblein et al. 2024:23 [ref. 40891]). Current status: Valid as Upeneus itoui Yamashita, Golani & Motomura 2011. Mullidae. Distribution: Northwestern Pacific: Taiwan north to Wakayama Prefecture (Japan). Habitat: marine.
