Holotype: GUIC CC1462MA. Paratypes: CUIC CC1462M (6). Plus additional non-type material. •Valid as Cobitis avicennae Mousavi-Sabet, Vatandoust, Esmaeili, Geiger & Freyhof 2015 -- (Jouladeh-Roudbar et al. 2015:881 [ref. 34062], Jouladeh-Roudbar et al. 2017:124 [ref. 35196], Eagderi et al. 2017:50 [ref. 35199], Esmaeili et al. 2017:60 [ref. 35254], Esmaeili et al. 2018:40 [ref. 36089], Freyhof et al. 2018:10 [ref. 36385], Jouladeh-Roudbar et al. 2020:155 [ref. 37983], Çiçek et al. 2023:6 [ref. 40616], Çiçek et al. 2024:47 [ref. 40789]). Current status: Valid as Cobitis avicennae Mousavi-Sabet, Vatandoust, Esmaeili, Geiger & Freyhof 2015. Cobitidae. Distribution: Middle East: Lower Tigris River drainage (Iran, Iraq) and possibly Kurdistan (Iraq). Habitat: freshwater.
