Type catalog: Mojica & Agudelo-Zamora 2018:33 [ref. 36127]. •Valid as Parotocinclus variola Lehmann A., Schvambach & Reis 2015 -- (Roxo et al. 2016:131 [ref. 34921], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:76 [ref. 35633], Lehmann A. et al. 2018:590 [ref. 36321], Pereira et al. 2019:604 [ref. 37052], Lehmann A. & Reis 2021:452 [ref. 38354]). •Valid as Rhinotocinclus variola (Lehmann A., Schvambach & Reis 2015) -- (Reis & Lehmann A. 2022:36 [ref. 39390]). Current status: Valid as Rhinotocinclus variola (Lehmann A., Schvambach & Reis 2015). Loricariidae: Hypoptopomatinae. Distribution: South America: upper Amazon River basin, Colombia and Brazil (and possibly Peru). Habitat: freshwater.
