Appeared as Platypoecilus maculatus var. pulchra (Boul. in litt.). There is no description of Boulenger for this species. Could be based on an aquarist-made variety or a natural one. •Synonym of Xiphophorus maculatus (Günther 1866) -- (Rosen & Bailey 1963:64 [ref. 7067], Lucinda in Reis et al. 2003:574 [ref. 27061], Huber 2019:150 [ref. 36941]). Current status: Synonym of Xiphophorus maculatus (Günther 1866). Poeciliidae: Poeciliinae. Habitat: freshwater.
